Participation in the interdistrict grants has
provided the opportunity for students from economically,
geographically,
and culturally diverse communities in the state of Connecticut
to establish positive relationships with each other in an
effort to reduce isolation
and foster an exchange of ideas. Geographically isolated
sections of the state have been partnered with less remote
regions. Diverse
populations in communities that are geographically close,
yet demographically diverse have also become partners. The
collaboration
provides students and teachers from various school districts
the opportunity to become virtual partners and work collaboratively
to develop an authentic task that extends their classroom
curriculum.
Through
videoconferencing and activities in multicultural education,
students and teachers become aware of their
own culture and values, learn to respect differences in
other cultures and
form
cross-cultural relationships that expand their classroom
experience.
All teachers will participate in diversity professional development. Both face to face and online courses will be offered.
